Frequently Asked Questions
How long will I need to be taking the herbal formula?
For chronic issues we generally recommend a three month plan for best results. Throughout these three months, we carefully observe your progress and may adjust the herbal formula based on the follow-up consultations.
Depending on the specific health issue you are facing, the treatment plan we create together, your personal goals, and how you feel throughout the process, a duration of three months of herbal remedies may be sufficient for some people while for others it may not be enough. It truly is a case-by-case situation that requires careful consideration and evaluation.
For long-term chronic illness, a general rule of thumb to consider is that you may use a month of herbal remedies for each year that you have experienced your specific condition. This approach allows the body to begin healing and restoring balance over an extended period.
How long will it take for the herbs to work?
Herbs' effects vary for each person and depends on several factors: age, body type, diet, lifestyle factors, condition and its severity and duration. Some may notice effects right away, while others become aware of the benefits of herbs they are taking when they stop taking them. The difference becomes apparent then.
Herbs are subtle in their action, often working gently within the body. Their effects may take time to manifest, allowing the body to adjust and respond in a natural way.
What exactly is herbal formula?
Herbal formula is made by mixing various tinctures in specific amounts by a herbalist., creating a balanced and synergistic herbal remedy.
Different compounds within different plants can target multiple pathways or mechanisms in the body, working together to address various aspects of a health condition.
They contain natural compounds that can enhance the bioavailability of other active constituents in the formula.
The natural balance and synergy in herbal formula can make them gentler on the body and reduce the risk of adverse reactions.
What are herbal tinctures?
Herbal tinctures are whole plant (root, leaves, flowers, bark, fruit etc) preparations. They are made from fresh or dried plant material macerated in water and alcohol for a period of time. There are different making methods of tinctures, such as decoction and infusion but they all end up as strong extractions of phytochemicals. When taken they are rapidly absorbed into bloodstream. Herbal tinctures vary in strength and alcohol content.
How do tinctures work?
When we ingest tinctures they are processed in the body as food. The compounds and metabolites present in these plants interact with our bodily chemicals to produce therapeutic effects. In other words, tinctures act on a biochemical level in our bodies.
Herbs contain naturally occurring bioactive compounds, such as alkaloids, phenols, tannins, flavonoids, glycosides, terpenes, saponins, resins, essential oils and polysaccharides etc. which have a direct impact on cellular processes: they can inhibit or activate enzymes, modify cellular transport systems, open or block ion channels and interact with specific receptors on different cells. These interactions can have profound effects on the body.
Some herbal compounds can reduce inflammation and protect cells from damage. Others can stop harmful microorganisms from growing. Additionally, research shows that some herbs can affect how well drugs work, lessen their side effects, and serve as alternatives.
Is herbalism and homeopathy the same?
Herbalism and homeopathy may seem alike, but they are fundamentally different in their approach and mode of action. Herbalism relies on the biochemical interactions between plant compounds and our body's chemistry, while homeopathy operates on an energetic level. Homeopathy operates on the principle of "like cures like." Homeopathic remedies are prepared through a process of dilution and succussion, which is believed to enhance the energetic properties of the substances used. These remedies are highly diluted, often to the point where no molecules of the original substance remain.
What's the hype about adaptogens?
Adaptogenic herbs contain compounds similar to human neurotransmitters and hormones. They can be taken long term or consumed as foods, because they are non toxic, non specific and normalizing to the body. They are like good exercise, help you build adaptive energy and good stress response, through affecting various regulatory systems in the body, such as molecular chaperones, HPA axis, SAS system and other stress mediators.
