Gynostemma pentaphyllum, also called Jiaogulan, is a dioecious, herbaceous climbing vine belonging to cucumber family. Native to Asia. The leaves are used in herbal preparations, teas, tinctures, and culinary dishes. Jiaogulan is valued for its rich and beneficial phytochemical profile. It is known to exhibit similar biological activities as ginsengs.

Planting
Plant Jiaogulan in spring, summer or autumn in well-drained soil in shaded areas. Can be grown under trees. Give it plenty of space and vertical support for its full potential.
Care
Jiaogulan is a hardy plant once established. Water regularly if the season is dry. Mulch in autumn. It dies back in autumn and comes back in spring. It grows and spreads fast, but is easy to control by simply trimming it. Harvest the leaves for tea, cooking or herbal preparations.
