Verbascum thapsus, also called Great Mullein or Velvet Plant, is very ornamental, biennial, flowering, tall, upright plant belonging to Scrophulariaceae family. Native to Europe, from Norway to Spain, UK and temperate Asia to China growing in sunny uncultivated fields and waste ground, especially on dry soils
Mullein grows very fast producing a low-growing rosette of large, velvety, grey-green or silver-green leaves in its first year. In its second year it sends up a single, unbranched, candle-like flowering spike with dense clusters of bright yellow, five-petalled flowers blooming from June to August. The entire plant is covered in fine, dense hairs that protect it from drought and deter grazing animals.
